Fact Checked

ZonGuru's Index Checker still works, and it is now free. ZonGuru pulled it out of the paid suite and runs it as a standalone tool at indexcheck.zonguru.com, listed under Guru Tools in its Resources menu. No subscription, no card, no account.

That covers you if you want a yes or no on a keyword list for one ASIN. Skip it if the question you actually have is a daily rank position, because that is a different tool on a different plan.

  • One-off answer, zero cost: ZonGuru's free ASIN Index Checker takes a list of phrases and returns indexed or not for each one.
  • Proof with no tools at all: type the exact phrase plus your ASIN into the Amazon search bar.
  • Watched every day: Keyword Tracker on the Seller plan, which reports rank position rather than eligibility.

If ZonGuru's paid tools are what you came for, the ZonGuru sign-up discount takes 20% off any plan for the life of the subscription.

Where ZonGuru's Index Checker Went

ZonGuru retired the in-suite version. The old zonguru.com/tools/index-checker page returns a 404, and Index Checker appears nowhere in the current 13-tool line-up on either plan. The tool survived the cut as a free public utility on its own subdomain, which ZonGuru still links from the Free Tools menu on its site.

  • No account and no payment. I ran a live check without signing in and got a full result table back.
  • A whole keyword list per run, pasted one phrase per line, with a CSV export on the results table.
  • 10 marketplaces in the dropdown: US, CA, MX, UK, DE, FR, IT, ES, AU, IN.
  • It echoes the product title it matched above the keyword rows, which catches a mistyped ASIN early.

How to Run the Check on One ASIN

The check runs in seconds. I put 3 phrases against one ASIN and the table came back with the product title, the marketplace, and an indexed column, one row per phrase. You need two inputs: the child ASIN of the listing and the exact wording a shopper types.

  • Open the tool at indexcheck.zonguru.com.
  • Paste the ASIN, and use the child ASIN on a variation listing. The parent often carries a different keyword picture.
  • Pick the marketplace in the dropdown. Index status is per marketplace, so a US pass says nothing about amazon.de.
  • Put one phrase per line in the keyword box. Multi-word phrases are the point: a 4-word search only returns your ASIN when all 4 words are attached.
  • Read the indexed column, then export the CSV and keep it as your before shot.

What Indexing Means and Why Keywords Fall Out

Indexing answers one yes or no question: can Amazon return your ASIN when a shopper types that exact phrase? Ranking answers a different one, which is where you land once you are eligible. A listing can sit on page 1 for one phrase and be invisible for the 3 words beside it.

  • The phrase is not in a field Amazon reads. Title, bullets, description, and backend search terms count. A phrase living only in A+ content does not.
  • A restricted word got filtered. Competitor brands, medical claims, and superlatives are stripped, and the phrase around them can go with it.
  • Your title got trimmed. Amazon enforces a 75-character title limit from July 27, which ZonGuru is warning sellers about. Re-test every phrase that fell past the cut.
  • The listing is suppressed or out of stock. Both pull you out of search results, which looks identical to a deindex.
  • You re-parented a variation. A child ASIN moved under a new parent inherits that parent's keyword picture, not its old one.

The manual method needs no software and no account, and it stays the source of truth when a tool and your own eyes disagree. You type the exact phrase, a space, then the 10-character ASIN into Amazon's search bar. Your listing coming back alone means indexed. Nothing back means it is not.

  • Watch for a spelling correction. If Amazon shows results for something else, you tested that phrase and not yours.
  • Sponsored impressions are not proof. Amazon serves ads on terms you hold no organic index for, so a busy search-term report can hide a dead keyword.

ZonGuru Keyword Tracker Watches Rank, Not Eligibility

Keyword Tracker is the paid tool people mean when they ask what replaced Index Checker, and it answers a different question. It reports a daily rank position for every buyer keyword you follow. It sits in the Monitoring and Alerts group, one of 5 categories, and it runs on the Seller plan only.

Operator scenario: Say you follow 3 head keywords on one ASIN and all 3 flatline on the same day. Ranks usually decay over weeks, so 3 vanishing together is rarely a ranking story. It normally means the words left your listing: a title trimmed to 75 characters, or a hijacker rewriting your copy.

Listing changes are ZonGuru Product Pulse territory, since it watches for the edits and hijacks that knock keywords out. One buying consequence: Keyword Tracker is not on Researcher, which carries 6 of the 13 tools, so daily monitoring means the Seller plan at $49/mo on annual billing. The Seller plan price ladder splits that by active SKU count, and the 7-day window to test it is long enough to see whether you use it.

Where Helium 10 Fits at Catalog Scale

Helium 10 is the alternative once one ASIN at a time stops being the job. Its entry paid plan, Platinum, lists at $129/mo or $99/mo on annual billing. That is real money next to a free checker, so the index question alone never justifies the subscription. You buy Helium 10 for Cerebro.

One check before you assume: Helium 10 no longer lists a standalone Index Checker on its tools page, and the old tool URL now redirects into its help center. Cerebro reverse-ASIN lookups and Keyword Tracker are what the plan actually sells you.

Operator scenario: Say you are relaunching 8 SKUs with 60 target phrases each. That is 480 lookups. ZonGuru's free checker eats that as 8 pasted lists at no cost. A paid suite earns its place at the next step, when you want the keyword sets discovered for you rather than typed by you.

Sellers who need the keyword set found, not just verified, outgrow a checker fast. For them the Helium 10 suite is the fit, because Cerebro pulls ranking keywords off competitor ASINs first. ZonGuru's free tool only tests a list you already have.

Four Ways to Confirm a Keyword Is Indexed

Two of these four options cost nothing, so budget is not what decides this. What separates them is the question each one answers and how often it answers it. Under 10 SKUs, the free checker plus a manual spot-check after every listing edit covers the whole job.

  • Use the free checker if you want a documented answer for a list of phrases, or the search bar if you are settling one argument right now.
  • Pay for tracking if a keyword falling out quietly costs you more per week than the plan costs per month.

What to Do When a Keyword Comes Back Not Indexed

Most failed checks trace back to the listing text, not to anything mysterious on Amazon's side. Work these 3 fixes in order and the majority resolve inside 72 hours. Order matters, because rewriting copy while a listing is suppressed burns a day of re-indexing time for nothing.

  • Confirm the listing is active and in stock first. A suppressed listing fails every index check no matter what the copy says.
  • Put the exact phrase in the title or a bullet, in that word order. Backend search terms work, but front-end placement is the version you can rely on.
  • Stop repeating words you already used. Amazon does not count a word twice, so a backend field stuffed with title words burns the space you needed for synonyms.

Indexing Is the Floor, Not the Finish Line

Checking one keyword at a time is a 2016 habit: necessary, and no longer enough on its own. Amazon's COSMO model and the Rufus assistant read a listing for intent and context, not only for word matches. ZonGuru's free AI-Readiness Score grades that side of the listing in about 2 minutes.

That report, plus the Helix listing transformation work, is where ZonGuru is spending its own attention in 2026. The paid suite is a separate decision: the full ZonGuru review covers whether all 13 tools earn a subscription, and the ZonGuru marketplace coverage page lists which Amazon sites the data reaches.

Indexing gets you into the auction. Being the listing Amazon's AI understands is what wins it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ZonGuru still have an Index Checker?

Yes, but it is free now and sits outside the paid plans. It runs at indexcheck.zonguru.com, linked from ZonGuru's own Guru Tools page. The old in-suite tool page returns a 404.

Do I need a ZonGuru account to use it?

No. There is no login wall and no card required. I ran a live check without signing in and got a full result table plus a CSV export.

How do I check if my Amazon listing is indexed for a keyword?

Search the exact phrase plus your ASIN in Amazon's search bar. If your listing returns, you are indexed. Nothing back means you are not. It takes about 10 seconds.

What is the difference between indexing and ranking?

Indexing means you can appear, ranking means where you appear. You cannot rank for a phrase you are not indexed for. A keyword can be indexed and still sit on page 7.

Which marketplaces does ZonGuru's index checker cover?

Ten: US, CA, MX, UK, DE, FR, IT, ES, AU and IN. You pick one per run, because index status is per marketplace. A US pass proves nothing on amazon.de.

Does ZonGuru Keyword Tracker show index status?

Not as a flag, but a live rank position proves you are indexed. It reports a daily rank position per buyer keyword and runs on the Seller plan only.

Do Sponsored Products impressions prove a keyword is indexed?

No. Ads can serve on terms you hold no organic index for. Confirm organically with the ASIN search before you assume that keyword is working.

How long after editing a listing should I re-check?

Wait 24 to 72 hours, then re-run the same phrases. Same marketplace, same child ASIN, same wording, or the before and after comparison means nothing.
