eRank wins for most Etsy sellers with keyword research, listing audits, and a cheaper entry plan. ProfitTree wins once orders and ad spend exist, because it nets Etsy fees and ads into true profit per listing.

eRank wins this matchup for most Etsy sellers, and ProfitTree wins one specific job: showing what your shop actually kept after Etsy fees, product costs, and ad spend. If your listings need better keywords, tags, and audits, eRank does that from $5.50 a month. If orders already flow and you run Etsy Ads, ProfitTree earns its $5.99 a month.

The two tools overlap far less than the vs framing suggests. I checked both pricing pages, both Chrome Web Store listings, and ProfitTree's help center this week. For a growing shop the honest answer is often both, at $11.49 a month combined on annual billing.

  • eRank wins: keyword research, listing audits, multi-shop plans, and the lower entry price.
  • ProfitTree wins: true profit per listing, Etsy Ads TACoS, and per-listing sales estimates.
  • Skip both for now: with zero listings and no niche shortlist, the two free plans will teach you plenty first.

Quick Verdict

eRank is the better buy for most sellers running this comparison. It is cheaper at $5.50 a month on annual billing, its plans connect up to 100 shops, and its keyword data spans more than a dozen marketplaces. ProfitTree beats it only once you have orders to track: its profit and ads reports have no eRank equivalent.

The seller who types this query usually pays for a research tool already and just saw ProfitTree pitched by a YouTuber, often with a $67 lifetime deal attached. That was the exact setup in an August 2025 r/printondemand thread: the poster paid for EverBee and eRank and wanted to cut down to two tools. My answer for that seller sits in the decision section below.

ProfitTree vs eRank at a Glance

The numbers frame the fight before any feature test. eRank's paid plans run $5.50 to $22.50 a month on annual billing; ProfitTree's run $5.99 to $29.99. Trustpilot favors ProfitTree at 4.0 from 18 reviews against eRank's 3.4 from 3. Both extensions rate under 4 stars on thin samples: 3.9 from 42 ratings versus 3.7 from 26.

Every number above comes from the two pricing pages, the Chrome Web Store, Trustpilot, and ProfitTree's help center, all checked this week. One caution baked into the ProfitTree column: its pricing page carries an "Early Access Discount Ends Soon" banner, so those rates are launch pricing.

What Each Tool Is

ProfitTree and eRank were built in opposite directions. eRank started as an Etsy SEO suite and grew into keywords, audits, trends, and competitor tracking for a claimed 2 million sellers. ProfitTree centers on a profit ledger for Etsy shops and wraps research, an AI assistant, and a Chrome extension around it. That difference explains every category result below.

ProfitTree in 60 Seconds

ProfitTree is an Etsy-only tool from ProfitTree Ltd, a company registered in Paphos, Cyprus, with its Chrome extension published by a developer in Sevilla, Spain. It claims more than 80,000 sellers. The core product nets Etsy fees, product costs, shipping, and ad spend out of every order, per listing. Research tools and the Rupert AI assistant sit on top.

Plans run Free, Starter, Growth, and Pro, and a separate $67 lifetime plan is sold through affiliate links rather than the pricing page. My in-depth ProfitTree review rates it 4.0 out of 5 and walks through every tier. This page sticks to where it beats or loses to eRank.

eRank in 60 Seconds

eRank is a web-based Etsy SEO platform that claims more than 2 million sellers. Its named tools are the Keyword Tool, Listing Audits, the AI Listing Helper, Competitor Tracking, Shop Insights, Health Check, Trend Buzz, and Monthly Trends. Paid plans start at $5.99 a month, or $5.50 on annual billing, and a free plan runs with no time limit.

eRank's extension carries its research onto Shopify, Amazon, Printify, and TeachersPayTeachers, which matters if Etsy is only one of your channels. I rate it 4.3 out of 5 in my eRank review, mostly for how much SEO tooling it sells per dollar.

Keyword and SEO Research: eRank Wins

eRank wins keyword work, because ProfitTree does not sell a keyword tool. eRank's paid plans allow 100, 200, or 500 keyword lookups a day, plus 50 to 500 listing audits and 10 to 100 AI Listing Helper uses. ProfitTree's plan list has no lookup quota at all; the closest thing is the tag list Etsy Radar shows on a listing.

The rest of eRank's SEO stack piles up fast. Compare Keywords sets up to 4 terms side by side using competition, search volume, and click-through data drawn from Etsy and Google. Rank Checker shows where your listings sit in Etsy search, from 10 checks on Free to 100 on Expert. Trend Buzz and Monthly Trends cover seasonality, and the Keyword Tool pulls trend data for more than a dozen marketplaces, including Amazon and eBay.

One caveat carries over from my review. eRank's A to F listing grades score surface signals such as tags filled and title structure. eRank's own help docs concede that top-selling listings can grade D or F, so treat the grade as a checklist, not a sales predictor. ProfitTree has no equivalent, good or bad.

Profit Tracking and Etsy Ads: ProfitTree Wins

ProfitTree wins this category by default, because eRank never built a profit report. ProfitTree reads your Etsy ledger through Etsy's official API and nets out listing fees, the 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing, shipping labels, and ad charges per order. Add your product costs, by CSV or a Printify or Printful sync, and every listing shows a true margin.

The Etsy Ads side is where ProfitTree pulls furthest ahead. Its Advertisement tab reports ad spend, TACoS (ad spend divided by total sales, paid plus organic), ROAS, and a break-even ROAS per listing. ProfitTree's help center walks through the decision: a listing with a 58% pre-ad margin and a 36% TACoS still nets about 22% and stays on, while a listing at a 48% margin whose ads leave about 8% should lose its ads.

ProfitTree's ad card for a listing shows an 18% TACoS and a 2.1 ROAS, calculated from ad charges billed to your Etsy ledger rather than estimated. Source: profittree.io.

Now the limits, because they matter. ProfitTree syncs the ledger roughly every 12 hours with no manual refresh, so the "real-time" wording on its homepage oversells it. Ad data must be synced through the Chrome extension, shows yesterday's numbers at the earliest, and displays in USD only for international sellers. Printify costs land in USD too, and your shop currency has to match your bank currency or the reports mix currencies. Every plan below Pro also covers one shop; adding more is a paid one-time add-on with no published price.

eRank's side of this ledger is short. It connects your shop for listing audits and Traffic Stats (which keywords and platforms send visits), and it can estimate a competitor shop's daily sales. It never touches your fees, product costs, or ad bill.

Product and Competitor Research: Closer Than It Looks

Research is the one category where the two tools genuinely overlap, and ProfitTree edges it for per-listing numbers. Its Product Finder lists monthly sales, monthly revenue, price, views, listing age, conversion rate, and a Niche Score for each listing. eRank's competitor tracking works at shop level: estimated daily sales for 5 to 200 shops by plan, plus Shop Info Reports.

ProfitTree's Product Finder shows price, monthly sales, revenue, views, listing age, and conversion rate per listing, all estimates; eRank never prints a per-listing revenue figure. Source: profittree.io.

ProfitTree's data windows are the catch. Starter shows 7 days of competitor metrics, Growth shows 30 days with trends, and only Pro opens all-time history, at $29.99 a month billed annually. The Free plan gets basic finders. Since December 23, 2025, a Demand Badge and tags flag listings that ProfitTree's new demand algorithm rates as sustained rather than spiky, and Etsy Radar paints the same dataset onto Etsy search pages while you browse.

eRank counters with breadth rather than depth. Its side-by-side listing compare shows daily views, stock, and processing times, Top Sellers Insights ranks Etsy's biggest shops by sales volume, and Shop Info Reports scale to 1,000 a day on the Expert plan. None of it prints a revenue estimate next to a listing, which is the specific number most people running this comparison want.

Neither vendor publishes how its estimates are built, and Etsy sellers know it. In a May 2025 r/EtsySellers thread on paid research tools, the consensus was that third-party sales estimates amount to educated guessing. Use ProfitTree's finder to rank niches against each other, not to forecast your revenue. If per-listing research is your main need, EverBee leads both tools: its extension serves 200,000 users at 4.7 stars, and my ProfitTree vs EverBee breakdown shows how wide that research gap is.

Which Numbers Can You Trust? Estimates vs Ledger Data

The most useful split in this comparison is estimate versus ledger. ProfitTree's profit, fee, and ad figures come from your own Etsy ledger; its help center states that nothing there is estimated, scraped, or guessed. Everything else both tools show, from keyword volumes to Niche Scores, is modeled data with an undisclosed formula.

Two practical rules fall out of that table. First, ProfitTree's numbers can disagree with Etsy's own Shop Stats and still be right: ProfitTree counts shipping collected and applies refunds to the original sale date, while Etsy's Shop Stats leave out shipping collected and date refunds when they are issued, per ProfitTree's help center. Second, treat both tools' scores as ranking devices. eRank's grades and ProfitTree's Niche Score both rank options against each other well. Neither predicts your sales.

Chrome Extensions: 3.9 vs 3.7, Both on Thin Samples

The extensions do not decide this matchup. ProfitTree's extension, listed as Etsy Seller Assistant, holds 3.9 stars from 42 ratings and 10,000 users. eRank's SEO for Ecommerce holds 3.7 from 26 ratings and 40,000 users. Both samples are small enough that a dozen new reviews could flip the order, and both shipped updates recently: ProfitTree's version 2.1.3 in August 2026, eRank's 3.2.5 in June.

What they do differs more than the ratings. ProfitTree's extension is a companion to the web app: Etsy Radar overlays sales and demand estimates on Etsy search results and listing pages, it syncs your Etsy Ads data (the only way ad metrics reach ProfitTree), it exports ad spend reports, and it runs a price calculator. It works on Etsy only. eRank's extension gathers keywords and competitor data on Etsy, Shopify, Amazon, Printify, and TeachersPayTeachers, so multichannel sellers get more from it.

The complaints split too. ProfitTree buyers on Reddit in January 2026 reported Chrome locking up when they opened Radar on Etsy, and a January 2026 Trustpilot review said the extension gobbles RAM. eRank's knock is different: reviewers rate its extension well below its web app, which is where the real tool lives.

Free Plans, Shops, and Marketplace Coverage

Both free plans are permanent and need no card. eRank Free allows 5 keyword lookups, 5 listing audits, and 1 AI Listing Helper use per day on 1 shop with 50 listings. ProfitTree Free gives 200 AI credits a week, basic product and shop finders, basic competitor tracking, and 7 days of profit history on 1 shop. Neither vendor runs a timed trial.

The free plans also answer the "is there a free alternative to eRank?" question more honestly than most pages. ProfitTree Free is not one. It has no keyword lookups, so it cannot replace even eRank's 5 a day. It is a free profit tracker and a light research tool. The real free eRank alternative is eRank Free itself, and the two $0 plans stack without conflict.

Multi-shop sellers should read that table twice. A seller with 3 Etsy shops pays $5.50 a month on eRank Basic and connects all 3. On ProfitTree the same seller pays $29.99 a month for Pro or buys an add-on the pricing page does not price. That gap is the biggest structural difference between the two plan ladders, and it never shows up in the YouTube pitches.

Pricing and Refunds Compared

eRank is cheaper at every tier on annual billing, though the entry gap is 49 cents. Basic costs $5.50 a month against ProfitTree Starter's $5.99. Pro costs $7.92 against Growth's $17.99, and Expert $22.50 against Pro's $29.99. On monthly billing the gap widens, because ProfitTree's 40% annual discount is much bigger than eRank's 25% cap.

Two more facts shape the price call. ProfitTree's pricing page carries that "Early Access Discount Ends Soon" banner, so today's rates are launch pricing that could rise; my ProfitTree pricing details page tracks every tier and the VAT line Paddle adds at checkout. eRank's annual saving is smaller, but its refund window is far kinder: 14 days on annual plans against ProfitTree's 48 hours, and monthly payments are final at both.

The $67 lifetime plan deserves one plain paragraph, because it is usually what drags eRank users into this comparison. It buys a Growth-style 30-day research window, one shop, 200 AI credits a week, and no product or listing reports; it is not Pro for life. Buyers on Reddit in January 2026 complained that metrics they relied on were moved behind an upgrade, and a July 2026 poster called the scope deceptive. Read the ProfitTree lifetime offer page before paying, and use the 5-day refund window to test it. eRank sells nothing comparable.

Which Tool Should You Choose?

Match the tool to your bottleneck, then check your order count. Zero or few orders means keywords and listings are the problem, so eRank. Steady orders plus Etsy Ads means margins are the problem, so ProfitTree. Growing shops usually need both, and the combined annual stack costs $11.49 a month, less than EverBee's Growth plan alone at $19.99.

Choose eRank if:

  • Your listings are live but buried and you need keyword volumes, tag data, and audits: 100 lookups and 50 audits a day for $5.50 a month.
  • You run more than one shop: Basic connects up to 5, Pro 10, Expert 100.
  • You sell beyond Etsy, since its keyword data covers more than a dozen marketplaces and its extension works on Shopify and Amazon.
  • You want the softer landing: a 14-day refund window on annual plans.

Choose ProfitTree if:

  • Orders already flow and you cannot say what a listing netted after Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee, processing, shipping, and product cost.
  • You run Etsy Ads and want TACoS and break-even ROAS per listing instead of Etsy's Marketing tab.
  • You sell print on demand through Printify or Printful and want product costs synced automatically.
  • Per-listing sales and revenue estimates matter more to you than keyword volumes.

Run both if you are past the hobby stage. eRank Basic plus ProfitTree Starter costs $5.50 plus $5.99 on annual billing, so $11.49 a month or $137.87 a year. For the r/printondemand seller paying for EverBee and eRank who wanted only two tools, my answer is simple: keep eRank, then pick between EverBee and ProfitTree by whether discovery or margins is the bigger gap right now.

Look elsewhere if research depth is the whole job. EverBee leads that category, and my eRank vs EverBee comparison settles the keyword-versus-research call. For the wider field, my Etsy seller tools ranking orders every tool I cover, and my list of ProfitTree alternatives covers cheaper and broader options if the one-shop limit or Etsy-only scope rules ProfitTree out.

Pros and Cons: eRank and ProfitTree

eRank takes the overall win with caveats attached. It sells more SEO tooling per dollar than anything else in this bracket, and its plan ladder scales to 100 shops. Its weak points are the letter grades, a lukewarm extension, and thin third-party proof: 3 Trustpilot reviews and 26 Chrome ratings. Weigh both sides before you pay.

Strengths
  • 100 keyword lookups and 50 listing audits a day for $5.50 a month on annual billing
  • Free plan is permanent: 5 lookups, 5 audits, and 1 AI Listing Helper use every day
  • Connects up to 5, 10, or 100 shops by plan; ProfitTree caps you at 1 below Pro
  • Keyword and trend data for more than a dozen marketplaces, plus an extension that reaches Shopify and Amazon
  • 14-day refund window on annual plans, paid through Paddle
Drawbacks
  • No profit tracking, no fee math, no ad spend or TACoS reporting at any tier
  • No per-listing sales or revenue estimates; competitor tracking works at shop level
  • Letter grades score tag and title usage, and top sellers can still grade D or F
  • Extension holds 3.7 stars from 26 ratings; Trustpilot has only 3 reviews

ProfitTree's ledger, in the same spirit:

  • Win: true profit per listing from your Etsy ledger, with product costs synced from Printify or Printful.
  • Win: Etsy Ads reporting with TACoS, ROAS, and break-even ROAS, which eRank does not attempt.
  • Win: per-listing sales and revenue estimates in Product Finder and Radar, plus Trustpilot at 4.0 from 18 reviews.
  • Miss: a 12-hour sync, one shop below Pro, and 7-day or 30-day windows on the cheaper plans.
  • Miss: no keyword tool, Etsy only, ad data in USD only, and an extension some users say freezes Chrome.
  • Miss: refunds of 48 hours on annual and 5 days on lifetime, and a $67 plan that excludes product and listing reports.

Final Verdict

eRank for most sellers, ProfitTree for shops with orders and ad spend, both for anyone scaling. eRank won keyword research, multi-shop coverage, marketplaces, price, and refunds. ProfitTree won profit tracking, Etsy Ads analytics, per-listing estimates, and Trustpilot sentiment. Start on the two free plans and upgrade the one whose limits you hit first.

If you buy ProfitTree, take annual billing and skip the lifetime plan unless its 30-day windows and single shop fit you today. If you buy eRank, Basic annual at $65.99 is the cheapest exit from the free caps, and cancellation drops you back to Free at the end of the cycle. Either way, price the two-tool stack at $11.49 a month before you pay $19.99 or more for a third research subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is eRank worth the money?

Yes, for keyword work: 100 daily lookups and 50 audits cost $5.99 a month, or $5.50 on annual billing. Skip it if you need profit tracking or per-listing revenue estimates, because it offers neither.

Is there a free alternative to eRank?

eRank's own Free plan is the closest thing: 5 keyword lookups and 5 listing audits a day, with no time limit. ProfitTree's free plan is not a keyword tool. It gives you a 7-day profit history, basic product and shop finders, and 200 AI credits a week instead.

Is ProfitTree legit?

Yes. ProfitTree Ltd is a registered company in Paphos, Cyprus, and the tool reads your shop data through Etsy's official API. Trustpilot rates it 4.0 from 18 reviews. The loudest complaints target the $67 lifetime plan's trimmed scope, a strict refund policy, and the extension's browser load.

Can I use eRank and ProfitTree together?

Yes, and the annual stack costs $11.49 a month. eRank Basic at $5.50 covers keywords and audits; ProfitTree Starter at $5.99 covers profit and ads. Both free plans also run side by side at $0.

Which is cheaper, ProfitTree or eRank?

eRank, by 49 cents a month at the entry level: $5.50 against $5.99 on annual billing. Monthly billing widens the gap, with eRank Basic at $5.99 and ProfitTree Starter at $9.99. Top tiers land at $22.50 against $29.99.

Does ProfitTree do keyword research?

No. ProfitTree has no keyword lookup tool, tag grades, or rank checker. Its research side is Product Finder and Etsy Radar, which estimate sales, revenue, and demand per listing. Keyword volume work stays with eRank.

Is ProfitTree better than EverBee?

For profit tracking, yes; for product research, no. EverBee's extension holds 4.7 stars from 393 ratings and estimates revenue across a claimed 200M listings, while ProfitTree's edge is netting fees, costs, and ad spend out of your own orders.

Which has the better Chrome extension, ProfitTree or eRank?

ProfitTree rates higher, 3.9 stars from 42 ratings against 3.7 from 26, but eRank's covers more sites. eRank's extension works on Etsy, Shopify, Amazon, and Printify; ProfitTree's is Etsy only, and some users report it slows Chrome.

Does eRank track profit?

No. eRank audits listings and tracks keywords, traffic sources, and competitor sales estimates, not your net profit. For a fee-by-fee margin per listing you need ProfitTree or a spreadsheet.
