Comparing Helium 10 vs Viral Launch

Both Helium 10 and Viral Launch have top-of-the-line tools for Amazon sellers. Helium 10 gives you more tools for your subscription cost. But, Viral Launch has some of the best automated tools I’ve seen.

Which tool you choose depends on what your needs are. If you’re just looking for product and keyword research and PPC automation, then Viral Launch is perfect for you.

But, if you need additional tools like inventory management and financial analysis, then you would be better off with Helium 10.

So, let’s look at what tasks can be performed with both Helium 10 and Viral Launch.

#1: PPC Automation

PPC automation is handled very differently by Viral Launch compared to Helium 10. While Viral Launch automates your PPC campaigns, Helium 10 just manages them.

Kinetic By Viral Launch

Kinetic is a comprehensive tool. It allows you to maximize your profits with your ad campaigns.

You start by creating customized rules from various templates. You can set these rules to update automatically or you can manually update them.

Plus, Kinetic shows you if your sales are coming from organic search or your ad campaigns. The tool also allows you to prioritize high-converting keywords. This means you’re not paying for keywords that are not converting.

The tool has integrated keyword research as well as tracking. All of the information you need is displayed well so you can instantly see how your ads are performing.

This is a fully automated PPC tool, unlike the tool offered by Helium 10.

ADS By Helium 10

PPC management tool ADS by Helium 10

ADS allows you to visually see how your PPC campaigns are performing. It also allows you to discover additional keywords that can convert to sales. The tool provides the data in charts as well.

This is more of a PPC management tool and doesn’t offer a lot of automation options. It’s only available in the Diamond and Elite membership plans.

Comparative Analysis

For complete PPC automation, Kinetics by Viral Launch is the better tool. It has more of a focus on creating automated rules for your campaigns.

Helium 10Viral Launch
ProsConsProsCons
  • Visual display of ad performance.
  • Use of graphs and charts.
  • Allows you to identify additional keywords.
  • No automation.
  • Lots of information that could be overwhelming.
  • Complete PPC automation.
  • Allows you to create rules for your ads.
  • Allows you to identify high-converting keywords.
  • Ability to track keywords.
  • Could take some time to set up your own ad rules.

#2: Product Research

You can conduct successful product research with either Helium 10 or Viral Launch. Let’s explore how each of the tools handles this.

Xray Chrome Extension By Helium 10

The Xray chrome extension is an excellent tool. It allows you to do your product research directly on an Amazon search page. It gives you all the data you need, to decide whether a category is worth selling in.

I ran a test using the search term “kitchen storage”. As you can see from the results, this category is very competitive. Therefore, you’d want to niche down further to find a less competitive sub-category.

Black Box By Helium 10

Black Box is a comprehensive product search tool. It allows you to select many different parameters. I took it for a test run using the category “Kitchen & Dining”. Some other parameters I set were:

  • Monthly Revenue – $100 to $100,000
  • Review Count – 1 to 50
  • Number of Sellers – 2 to 10
  • Title Keyword Search – Kitchen storage

Here’s a screenshot of my setup:

And, here is a small selection of the results.

The tool came back with 200+ products in this search.

I think this is an excellent tool for conducting extensive product research.

Trendster By Helium 10

Besides the 2 product research tools above, Helium 10 also has a tool called Trendster. This allows you to analyze products via Google Trends to see whether they are seasonal.

Product Discovery By Viral Launch

Product Discovery allows you to find products in untapped markets. You can do this all within the Viral Launchpad.

Here’s a quick video to show you how it works.

With this tool you can search for new products in the following ways:

  • Find niches that offer lots of potential.
  • Discover successful brands to emulate.
  • Find sub-categories of up and coming products that are not yet too competitive.

Market Intelligence By Viral Launch

What I like about Market Intelligence is that it gives any product idea that you enter into it a “star validation” up to 5. This instantly allows you to eliminate unprofitable product ideas.

Then, you’re provided with further data that is based on historical sales, price, and reviews. Plus, there’s an in-built profit calculator.H

Here’s a quick video to explain the tool:

You can access this tool within the Viral Launchpad or as a Chrome extension.

If you want to try it out, you can create a free account with no credit card needed. This trial will give you 5 free searches per day.

Comparative Analysis

I think both these product research tools are excellent. They would certainly provide you with plenty of product ideas. The tools from Viral Launch are best for private-label sellers. Conversely, Helium 10’s tools are great for all types of sellers including wholesale and arbitrage.

Helium 10Viral Launch
ProsConsProsCons
  • Chrome extension gives you instant access to on-page stats.
  • You can set lots of search parameters.
  • Gives extensive result you can work with.
  • There’s a lot of information to work through. This could be overwhelming for new sellers.
  • Using too many different tools can be time-consuming
  • Allows you to find a profitable niche using the Chrome extension.
  • In-built profit calculator.
  • Complete automation.
  • The automation may mean that you miss some possible viable products.

#3: Keyword Research

While Viral Launch has 1 comprehensive keyword research tool, Helium 10 has 3.

Let’s take a look at these in more detail.

Magnet By Helium 10

I decided to do a test with Magnet using our previous keyword “kitchen storage”.

Here’s what a snapshot of the results looks like:

As you can see, this search produced a large number of results. But, it does give you a starting point to narrow down the list. Filtering by the Magnet IQ score would be a good start. The higher the score, the higher the search volume and the lower the competition.

You can also use the keywords in the “word frequency” box to narrow down your search. This will allow you to come up with the best keywords for your listing.

Cerebro By Helium 10

This is a reverse ASIN lookup tool. It’s linked directly from Magnet but is also a stand-alone tool.

To test it out, I clicked on the first ASIN in Magnet’s results in the “frequently bought together” box.

This search brought back a result of over 9,000 keywords.

The Cerebro IQ score works the same as Magnet’s IQ score.

So, this would be a good way to narrow down your keyword list.

Misspellinator By Helium 10

This tool helps you to find commonly misspelled keywords on Amazon. It’s a fairly simple tool that also identifies Amazon auto corrections. This is handy to know so that you don’t waste your advertising dollars on those words.

I put the words “kitchen storage” into the tool. I found that most misspellings of “kitchen” were auto-corrected by Amazon.

Keyword Research By Viral Launch

This tool searches the entire Amazon marketplace to find search terms that customers are looking for. It does this by doing a reverse-market look-up. This gives you actual keywords that customers are searching for,

Here’s a video to explain this further:

Comparative Analysis

Although I like the research tools by Helium 10, I think that Viral Launch takes keyword research to the next level. I’m impressed by the automation of this tool. It eliminates a lot of the time-consuming task of filtering through all the keywords to find the most relevant ones for your product. This tool definitely gets my number one vote.

Helium 10Viral Launch
ProsConsProsCons
  • 3 tools for keyword research.
  • Comprehensive information with lots of filtering ability.
  • Gives you product ideas.
  • Using too many different tools can be overwhelming.
  • Analyzing the results could eat up a lot of time.
  • Complete automation.
  • Keywords are sorted to reveal the most relevant ones.
  • A time-saving tool.
  • For simple keyword suggestions you can just use the Amazon search bar.

#4: Competitor Analysis

Both Helium 10 and Viral Launch have tools that help you analyze the keywords your competitors are using.

Both of these rely on finding competitor ASINs and then analyzing them.

Market Tracker By Helium 10

Market Tracker requires you to choose a niche market. You then enter up to 5 keywords. Select some of the ASINs of products in your niche market.

Market Tracker then goes to work and brings back relevant results every week.

Here’s a test I did a little while back on the “Gourmet Chocolate Market”.

When I clicked on “suggestions”, this is what came up.

As you can see, the tool collects the most relevant keywords and their search volume. It then also identifies products within that market. The product score (0-100) shows how well the product is ranking for the most popular keywords. The higher the score the better.

This is great for Amazon sellers who use the wholesale or arbitrage models.

It can help you identify popular products within a certain market niche.

Competitor Intelligence By Viral Launch

This tool works slightly differently. You input an ASIN from one of your competitors. The tool then returns a list of keywords. From this, you can see how well your competitors are utilizing the most prominent keywords.

This will help you to identify keywords that are being underutilized by your competitors. The tool also allows you to track these words including any change in rank.

Comparative Analysis

Whether you use Helium 10 or Viral Launch for your competitor analysis depends on your Amazon sales model. For a seller who uses the wholesale model, I prefer Market Tracker by Helium 10. This is because it lets me identify possible products to source. For private-label sellers, however, both tools would be valuable. But, you might prefer the tool from Viral Launch.

Helium 10Viral Launch
ProsConsProsCons
  • Gives you keywords that your competitors are using.
  • Gives you product examples that use those keywords.
  • Helps you identify popular products.
  • It does take some time for the Market Tracker to bring back results.
  • Allows you to identify your competitors’ keywords.
  • Allows you to track those keywords.
  • Requires you to enter an ASIN of a competitor’s product.
  • Doesn’t suggest product ideas like Helium 10’s tool.

#5: Listing Optimization

For optimizing your listings, Helium 10 has a total of 4 tools that may be useful.

Viral Launch, on the other hand, has both a listing analyzer tool and a listing builder.

Let’s look at these in more detail.

On-Page Evaluation By Helium 10

I really like the On-Page Evaluation Chrome extension. It lets you see instantly how well optimized any listing is.

I chose a product on Amazon in the “kitchen storage” niche to show you how this tool works.

As you can see, this listing gets a score of 8.14 out of 10. The tool identifies what needs to be done to fully optimize this listing. I really like the simplicity of this. And, the fact that it gives you actionable tasks to improve the listing.

Frankenstein By Helium 10

Helium 10’s Frankenstein

Frankenstein helps you to clean up your keywords. This means that you only use the most relevant ones in your listing.

This tool allows you to build your listing incorporating the most important keywords. This will ensure that your listings are fully optimized to show in Amazon search results.

Listing Builder by Viral Launch

Here’s a quick video showing you how these tools work.

Comparative Analysis

Both Helium 10 and Viral Launch handle listing optimization extremely well. However, I still really like the On-Page Analyzer by Helium 10.

Helium 10Viral Launch

  • The on-page listing optimization tool allows you to fix your listing quickly.
  • Scribbles allows you to create a listing from scratch using all the relevant keyword.
  • Using too many different tools can be overwhelming.

  • The Listing Builder ensures you’re using all the relevant keywords.
  • No on-page extension.
  • You have to grab the ASIN to input into the analyzer.

Helium 10 has several extra tools that Viral Launch does not. These include:

  • Hijack Alerts
  • Refund Reimbursement Assistance
  • Financial Analytics
  • Inventory Management
  • Landing Page Builder
  • Freedom Ticket Amazon Training

Viral Launch does have 1 extra tool that Amazon sellers will find useful. And, it’s free to use.

Listing Dojo By Viral Launch

This tool allows you to easily conduct A/B testing on your main product points. These include price, images, titles, and descriptions. In fact, you can create each split in only minutes.

Listing Dojo

What I like about this tool is that once you set up a test, the tool works automatically in the background. Here’s the link, so you can test it for yourself.

I think this tool is extremely useful and something that Helium 10 does not have.

#7: Pricing

To get access to the most valuable tools on each platform, the prices are very similar.

Helium 10 Pricing

Viral Launch Pricing

As you can see, to get the most value from Viral Launch, you really need the Pro Plan as a start.

However, if you also want PPC automation, you’ll have to invest in the Kinetic plan at $199 per month.

Comparative Analysis

While I really like the tools from Viral Launch, I do believe that Helium 10 gives you more bang for your buck.

#8: Customer Support

Helium 10 has various options for customer support. These include:

  • Online Chat
  • Contact Form
  • Extensive Knowledgebase
  • Regular Podcasts

Viral Launch also offers different support options including:

  • Online Chart
  • Contact Form
  • Free courses
  • A Seller Podcast
  • Ebooks

And The Overall Winner Is

From a perspective of value for money, I would say that Helium 10 comes out on top. But it really depends on what you’re looking for.

Viral Launch has some excellent tools. I do like the fact that a lot of their tools are automated too. This cuts down on the amount of time you spend researching and analyzing.

If you’re just looking for product and keyword research and PPC automation, then you will find that Viral Launch has you covered. This tool is probably the most useful for launching new products on Amazon.

But, if you want additional tools that can help you with inventory management and profit analysis, then Helium 10 would be better. By the way, don’t forget to check our dedicated page on Helium 10 coupons.
